I will say that I love how diverse this anthology is, and how much ownvoices rep is within these stories. It was spooky, it was so atmospheric, it was diverse, and it was beautiful. It had everything that I wanted, and I can’t wait to read more by this author. My favorite story was easily In Kind by Kayla Whaley, and it was the only story that I gave a whole five stars too. There were a few gems throughout, but for the most part this was a very lackluster and forgettable anthology for me. In the way of the actual short story felt very pointless. Sadly, I felt like most of these stories just left you wanting more, but not in the good way. I feel like I might have had way too high of expectations going into this, based on the author list alone. Maybe vampires are getting old? I’m sorry, friends. High schools and small towns have a lot in common. ) Carter Mahoney is not for the faint of heart. I have very much enjoyed Carter and Zoey’s story, so I hope you will too, but I want to make sure I’ve prepared/warned you adequately. These characters have their own unique damage, needs, desires, and proficiencies, and they are seeking out partners who fit them as they are, not partners who need them to change and be something they’re not. If you need safe, good-guy heroes in every romance you read, this is not the story for you. I know where the characters’ limits are, but you know your own sensitivities much better than I do.Ĭarter Mahoney is not a comfortable hero, and this is not always a comfortable love story.
